Chronicle of the Years of Embers
Mohamed Lakhdar-Hamina
Feature Film | Algeria | 1975 | 175 min.

The story follows the peasant Ahmad’s migration from his drought-stricken village to his eventual participation with the Algerian resistance movement against French colonial rule, just prior to the outbreak of the Algerian War of Independence. His son continues the struggle until the film ends November 11, 1954, the official outbreak of the war. Filmed in rich CinemaScope, this stunning epic from director Mohamed Lakhdar-Hamina is one of world cinema's rarely-seen gems. First Arab film to be given Cannes’ highest honor of best feature film, Palme d'Or Award, 1975. With Jorgo Voyagis, Lakhdar-Hamina, Sid Ali Kouiret.
